All the Goings On...
brought to you on the 15th of November 2008Here's whats on at Yf the next few weeks:
16th November:
Catalyst @ Netherauldhouse so no YF! Most of us will be at catalyst if you want to come along for some banter!
23rd November:
the YF will be getting in the mood for Christmas! Yes, we are going to stick on "Cliff's Christmas crackers" as we prepare Christmas shoeboxes! We've done this for the past few years as part of the church's effort to bring joy to children all over the world. Its a great cause and a genuine excuse to buy a new pair of shoes! Here is everything that you need to know!
It's OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD! This week the YF will be packing up shoeboxes full of goodies to send to poor kids in Eastern Europe and Africa as Christmas presents. These shoeboxes will probably be the only present these kids will get at Christmas, and knowing that somebody somewhere in the world loves you enough to send one must be a pretty special feeling for them! So come along with loads of stuff and we'll all have a blast!
Here's what to bring to put into your shoebox, something from each category would be good:
✔TOYS – something to love
Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument, (for boys – trucks and cars, for girls – doll, clip-on earrings, make-up or hair accessories) etc.
✔ EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES – something to do
Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, rubber, colouring book, notepad, picture/puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers etc.
✔ HYGIENE ITEMS – something to use
Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of wrapped soap, flannel, etc.
✔ OTHER ITEMS – something to eat or wear
Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of following year), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces etc.
✘
DO NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
• FOOD Chocolate, crisps, biscuits, tinned food or cakes (or any other food)
• MEDICINE Medicines or vitamins of any kind
• WAR RELATED ITEMS toy guns, soldiers or knives
• CLOTHING (other than listed above)
• FRAGILE ITEMS Glass containers; mirrors
• LIQUIDS of any kind including blow bubbles, shampoo, bubble bath, toiletry sets or aerosols
• DANGEROUS ITEMS Marbles or sharp objects – scissors or razors
• NOVELS
• ANYTHING OF A POLITICAL OR RACIAL NATURE
And probably the latest Blu-Ray movie or PS3 game wouldn't be very useful either.
So choose whether you are going to give to a boy or a girl and what age and go for it. "MAKE YOUR BOX FUN AND EDUCATIONAL!" Just try and think what you would want/need in their shoes.
And don't forget to bring a shoebox and some wrapping paper!

YF WEEKEND AWAY!
brought to you on the 11th of June 2008Yep, we've been announcing it for what seems an eternity but it's nearly here!!
For all those coming on the weekend away
we have some important details for you!
(NOTE: INFO HAS CHANGED, PLEASE READ!)
1) If you under 18 then you MUST bring a consent form with you this Friday. It can be found at our downloads page!
2) If you are have not paid the full £40 which includes the deposit, then we NEED your money or you may not be allowed to eat!
3) If you have any dietary requirements you need to let us know ASAP or you will be unable to eat. Hit reply!
4) We are meeting at 6pm SHARP at the church on Friday having had dinner. We will partake in a spot of supper on at Kincraig and, as usual, we provide the baking so it would be great if we could all bring a wee something sweet. Your girlfriend doesn't count.
5) The kitlist is as follows:
Bible, Pen and Notepad,
Sensible clothing as it could be cold. You may be participating in activities in which you're likely to get wet or muddy, so bring:
a waterproof jacket (remember the wide game possibilities),
decent shoes (tiny slipper things don't count),
as many changes of underwear as you feel is necessary for the health of others. Bring spare socks too, always useful.
Some money for Saturday afternoon.
Torch – for wide game madness.
Tea towel – yep, you will need to dry some dishes.
Towel and toiletries. This is to encourage washing.
Music and DVDs - must be of satisfactory quality.
Baking for Friday night supper and any other sweets you wish to consume.
DO NOT BRING A SLEEPING BAG - ALL LINEN IS NOW PROVIDED!
(besides we have no car space for it so it'll just be left in the church car park!)
This does sound a lot but please PACK LIGHT as we simply do not have the space in cars.
6) We will be back later on, on Sunday afternoon and will endevour to drop people off at their own houses.
7) Pray for the weekend: that God would use the weekend, for those leading activities, for Douglas as he speaks to us, for the chance to get to know other YFers, for safety in travelling, etc.
Hop you're all looking forward to the weekend!
Until Friday,
The Team
